We live in a world where women are terrified to listen to their gut, do what they want, and to say no. We are conditioned to be compliant and when we do say no we’re left feeling guilty. Below is an example of a woman setting a boundary but then feeling the need to justify it, followed by the guilt of having boundaries. The video is from content creator Olivia Irvin (TikTok: @itsoliviairvin).
When you look at the comments in response to this video, men blame women holding boundaries for the lack of “dating” opportunities. The underlying assumption is that men are entitled to women’s bodies for sexual gratification. Whole fictions are being created where people imagine this man as some sad, lonely, courageous soul who this woman should serve. Thankfully many women gave courage and support to Irvin for doing what was best for her.
