♀️Female Hero Series♀️, 2024:
RECY TAYLOR
American Hero
Recy Taylor had the courage, determination, and strength to stand up to male violence, to white violence, to rapists. She is the Woman, the Black Woman, who catalyzed several social movements in the U.S. including the female liberation movement and the Black liberation movement. With the aid of fellow freedom fighter Rosa Parks, Recy roused the consciousness of women everywhere that rape is a male creation for enforcing supremacism. The intersections of the oppressions she faced would go on to later inspire feminists such as Kimberlé Crenshaw and Tarana Burke to continue exposing how sexism and racism specifically target Black Women (and other female racial minorities). In this 2024 rape culture and culture of supremacy, I remember Recy Taylor and the power of truth tellers.
