Jean Kilbourne's Killing Us Softly series studies how male-led industries subjugate girls and women by using their bodies as a tool of advertising.
Kilbourne is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work on the image of women in advertising and for her critical studies of alcohol and tobacco advertising. She launched the movement to promote media literacy as a way to dismantle social problems.
