Gender's Troubled: Feminine-Face is Woman-Hating

I struggle with making sense of the word “Woman-Face” because it doesn’t make linguistic sense to me when compared to its inspirations, “Black-Face”, “Brown-Face”, and other forms of hating through mockery and mimicry. I think a better term is “Feminine-Face” which points to what men and boys who pretend to be women and girls are specifically doing: mocking femaleness through an exaggerated mimicry of femininity. Notice, there’s a difference between mimicry and mockery. This specificity matters. The sex-based stereotypes that men link to being a woman or girl are all based on “femininity”, not femaleness. A caricature rooted in female-hating…Feminine-Face. Where men think makeup, revealing clothing, high heels, and a fictitious personality are what make us female. This male construction is meant to turn women out through cultural feminization. Males’ social media markets a faux- battle between women and men in Feminine-Face. They pretend their’s a competition, and they sell all the products of feminization at the same time. Another piece of the male pimpocracy (Thank you BurbNBougie for this term!). Men need us doubting, arguing, and buying a bunch of bullshit meant to make us “beautiful.” Feminine-Face is about pushing the age-old male message that women need to paint themselves and hide their materiality.

“Brown-Face”, “Black-Face”, “Red-Face”, etc. diverge in this way, because the attack is rooted in the mockery of our biological and material reality of melanin and features related to our geographic roots. These color-based mimicries also used common cultural archetypes as props in their minstrelsy and other media. When I first watched the movie “Gandhi”, I had no idea it was a European man painted brown. his makeup hid the truth from me, and as a little girl I believed that Indians were shown on American TV as serious and respected actors (not just the mockery I’d seen in movies like Indian Jones: Temple of Doom). Exaggeration was used in color-based mimicry, like we see with “Feminine Face”, but not in the same vein. This is why over-relying on comparisons and trying to collapse knowledge into “theories of everything” becomes a weak way to analyze social issues. Sex-based and Color-based oppression share similarities, even intersections (intertwinements), yet they are wholly distinct and must be framed as such. The co-optation of the terminology is problematic and rooted in male culture thinking. Yes, words and their history matter.

Men try to put a veneer over the woman-hating of Feminine-Face by linking this mockery to sexual orientation, DSM diagnoses, “fetish”, identity, “freedom of expression”, and other euphemistic coercions. But I see this as the wrong framing, only meant to distract. Feminine-face is woman-hating and that is a pastime men have added to every facet of their existence, going back centuries. So it ends up showing up in every space that men inhabit. Always ask yourself how is male culture using manipulation to distract from the roots of their sexism and misogyny. What we see in all these memes of all these men is just men who hate women. We saw it with Shakespeare’s male actors playing all the women’s parts, we see it in the straight men’s communities where entire movie genres are based on this form of hate, we see it in the gay and bi men’s communities where the word “drag” is not supposed to be read as an insult, and now we see it in the joint communities of ALL men united by whatever gender’s latest iteration is. At this current moment, that is the concept of “transsexualism”, “transgenderism”, “third-gender”, and the deconstruction of sex. Gender is woman-hating and woman-hating is gender. We can’t ever lose sight of that. We’re just at the current part of a very long cycle. These men who want to deconstruct sex have always been on that path. Every choice is connected to the dehumanization of women, girls, female.

It doesn’t matter what a man calls himself, he either directly or indirectly participates in woman-hating culture. This culture has spread to even some women enabling and endorsing the different forms of men’s hatred of femaleness. The ideology of female inhumanness has infected the entire social fabric of our world. Men have us asking, “are women human?” because they know the power of propaganda to turn the illogical question into a legitimized debate.

• Like forced-birthers do with the semantic coercion of “pro-life” and “fetal personhood”

• Like men who love gender do with the semantic coercion of “transsexual”, “transgender”, “third gender”

• What examples come to mind for you? When you start looking, the semantic/euphemistic coercions are endless

We only stop gender and protect our female sex-class by breaking ourselves of thinking and analyzing along the lines of male supremacism-parasitism. This gender shit started before it had that name, way back when men started spreading their myths that we’re subhuman because of our female sex, that the world functions according to hierarchies of superiority, and that science is a malleable weapon designed for colonization.

Gender—sex-based stereotypes—“femininity”, “masculinity”, “androgyny”—are myths. They are only made real if we continue to argue according to males’ illogicalities. We fight back by decolonizing our thoughts and our language and using the terms true to our female culture logic. Where there are no terms, we start building new ones. It’s not easy, but we have to start somewhere. We need a breath of analysis so that future generations have multiple thinkers’ ideas to parse through as they form their own. Question why you say “woman” or “female” when what you really mean is “femininity” or sex-based stereotypes. Question every thinker, remember there are no prophets, and that only you can decide what you believe.
