Technological Pimps and the "Social" Media Apps that Create

I’m feeling very defeated now that Donald T. is officially in office. I was in a state of apathy since he won, but now that he has full power, my apathy has turned to terror. The reproductiverights.gov website being shutdown, the EEOA being threatened, and his divisive inauguration speech, all of this sets the tone of authoritarianism that will fill the next four years of U.S. politics. Adding to the alarm is his embrace of the technological pimps who control social media and beyond. As a feminist and a rape prevention educator, I’ve always experienced censorship online. With this new regime, I’m already hearing about increases in censorship of feminist discourse. The more I use Instagram and similar platforms, the more I see how I’m complicit in supporting these men. But how do I connect with other feminists without using these mainstream portals? What do we do when we’re stuck between a rock and a sexist place?


P.S. This graphic is in no way an exhaustive list which is the most depressing part. This is just a small sampling of the more well-known technological pimps. But there’s so many, many more. How do we bring these male supremacists down???
